This is our fellow missionaries that we serve in the temple with and also travel and tour with on p-day. We are in front of the Union building at Pretoria, the South Africa Capitol City. The Union Building is the equivalent of our National Capitol and also houses the office of the Prime Minister.

The beautiful South African Union Building and surrounding gardens.

The foreground is the beautiful gardens and grounds that are in front of the Union Building. This is on a hill on the North side of Pretoria and is looking across the main downtown part of the city. Far across the valley to the South, you can see the outline of the Voortrekker Monument on the crest of the hill to the left of center.

This old cannon guards the Union building.

Our trip included a visit to Irene's Dairy Farm. This farm was originally started in the late 1800's and has been in operation for 5 generations. It still functions, but has now been turned into a popular tourist spot.

These two "gentleman" farmers are inspecting the old Massey - Ferguson tractor that has served here at the farm for many years. It continues to serve now in a different capacity.

We visited the Jan Smuts estate and went for a nature hike into the woods that are part of his old property. Jan Smuts served as Prime Minister of So. Africa on two different occasions. He was one of the principle historical figures that shaped the country in the 20th century.

Jan Smut's ride. This is a Cadillac built in the late 1940's. He died in 1950, so this was probably his car when he died.

Two old armored vehicles from the Jan Smuts era (1920's, 30's and 40's) serve as lawn decorations on the front lawn of Jan's estate.
