Our Digs

This is our apartment complex, called Duke's Court. It is home to all the senior missionaries that are in Johannesburg. There are about 20 LDS couples living here in apartments owned by The Church. There must be about 200 apartments in the complex. It is located in the township of Killarney, about a mile from the temple.

Visit to Harbeespoort

We passed by this shanty town on our way into the countryside. It shows some of how the poorer people live here. Note the government has provided portable toilets, which shows something of their concern for sanitation. Also note the car driving on the wrong side of the road.

This is a beautiful Dutch market near the Harbeespoort Dam. Very good produce directly from the farmer is found here.

MTC and Departure

We are in front of the world map in the main foyer of the MTC. Our two mission areas are directly between our shoulders.

All of the departing temple missionaries in our MTC group are on the front steps of the Provo Temple. This is the largest temple group in the past several years. They are headed for all parts of the world, even Washington D.C. and Manhattan, N.Y. The couple in the front is our wonderful trainers, Elder and Sister Melvin Hammond.

We are escorted to the airport and sent off by our own Captain - Spencer.
