Dental Week

Church Humanitarian Services sponsored "Dental Week" in partnership with the Madagascar Health Ministry and Association of Dentists. There was a large kick-off ceremony in the Fokotany of Ambohitrakatso. This project involves a group of up to 50 dentists going out into 10 remote villages in the country on a rotational basis. They spend two days in each village, one village each week for 10 weeks. The first day they mainly do extractions and the second day they do examinations on the school children. All services are free to the poor.
The Dentists are in white on the first and second rows. The two girls in the foreground are Sister Missionaries we brought with us to the ceremony to participate in the program. A nice crowd has gathered in the background.
This project is the work of Sister Bird. She processed the project request, obtained Church approval and has spearheaded the project. She is one of the speakers on the Kick-off ceremony Program. There were hundreds of people including school children in attendance. Gaby is interpreting for her.
The ceremony is now over and the work begins. There will be over 100 extractions today in Ambohitrakatso. Many sore mouths, but much needed relief.
